2009 Trips

January 3: ACE Basin, Horseshoe Creek Ricefields. Explored various ricefields along the creek. Mid 60's and overcast. Trip Length: 8.4 miles.

January 10: ACE Basin, Horseshoe Creek Ricefields and Chessey Creek Canals: Explored two ricefields and then paddled up Chessey Creek to its boat landing and took the canals back to Horseshoe Creek. Upper 70's, sunny, and perfect! Trip length: 9.1 miles.

April 2: Penny Creek to Willtown Bluff via Rice Field Canals. Warm and breezy--mid 70's. This is a 3 1/2 hour trip with new paddlers. Trip length: 6.4 miles.

April 25 & 26: ACA Trip Leader Training

May 9: Wee Tee Lake. Georgeous cypress filled lake 1 1/4 hours out of Charleston, up HWY 41. Upper 80's and sunny . Trip length: 7 miles.

May 16: Francis Marion Forest: Pitch Landing on Echaw Creek to McConnells Landing and back. Lower 80's and a small shower, but lots of sun too. The shower cooled us off. Trip length: 8.4 miles.

May 20: Penny Creek to Willtown Bluff via Rice Field Canals-including second creek. Mid 70's and gale warnings in Charleston Harbor. Wind was from the northeast and we were headed with the wind and tide and the trip was great. Initially cloudy, but turned warm and sunny. Trip length: 8 miles.

May 23: Live Oak Landing on Edisto Island to Otter Island and back. Overcast, cool, breezy, and choppy.Trip length: 10 miles.

May 24: Limehouse Bridge on Stono River, up Rantowles Creek to Bulow Landing and back. Mid 70's and drizzle. Trip length: 8 miles.

May 27: Congaree National Park, Cedar Creek. Lower 80's sunny, offset by a hard rain in the middle. Trip length: 5.6 miles.

May 31: Wappoo Cut to Battery and back. Lower 80's and georgeous! Trip length: 6 miles.

June 2: Wappoo Cut to Battery and back. Mid 80's and sunny. Great paddle. Trip length: 6 miles.

June 13: Pierpont Landing to Northbridge and back. Mid 80's and sunny. Trip length: 10 miles.

June 14: Brickyard Landing to Fee Farm Creek. Lower 90's, sunny, and hot. Trip length: 13 miles.

June 15: Isle of Palms to saltwater marshes behind the island. Lower 90's, sunny, and hot. Trip length: 5 miles.

June 20: Steamboat Landing near Edisto River, downriver to Botnay Bay Wildlife Management Area and back. Mid 90's, sunny, with a stiff afternoon seabreeze on the return paddle. Trip length: 21 miles.

June 28: Willtown Bluff up the creeks, through the ricefields and back to Willtown. Mid 90's and hot. Too for animals! Trip length: 8.2 miles.

July 3: Penny Creek loop trip. Mid 90's and sunny.Trip length: 5 miles

July 5: Combahee River loop trip from Steel Bridge Landing to Cuckholds Creek Landing and back. Mid 90's and hot. Worked the tide perfectly each way! Trip length: 17 miles.

July 10: Fee Farm Creek on Ashepoo River to Price Bridge Landing on Horseshoe Creek. Upper 80's amd low humidity. A perfect day to paddle. Trip length: 14 miles.

July 12: Folly Beach to Apron Island loop trip. Uppers 80's and a gentle breeze. We saw so many pelicans diving and dolphin feeding that we did not go tp Apron Island; just remained on the Folly River. Great swim break in the Folly River. Trip length: 6.3 miles.

July 18: Beaufort: Port Royall Landing to Brickyard Landing. Upper 80's and a gentle breeze. We experienced the Beaufort Water Festival. trip Length: 12 miles.

July 19: Folly Beach-Apron Island loop trip. Lower 90's and a few dolphin. Great swimming break. Trip length: 6.1 miles.

July 26: Willtown Bluff up the creeks, through the ricefields, and then up Penny creek. Sunny and hot. Trip length: 7.1 miles.

July 27: Edisto River: Willtown Bluff, through the ricefields and up Penny Creek. Lower 90's. The youngsters, mom, and I took a great swim break in the middle of the Edisto River. Trip length: 6.4 miles.

July 27: Rantowles Creek from Bulow Landing to Limehouse Bridge. Overcast and dark. Upper 80's.Rain threatened, but did nor come. trip length 6.1 miles.

July 31: Experiencing the Ashley River: Wappoo Cut in Charleston harbor to Oakbrook Landing in Summerville. Lower 90's and a bit of a breeze. Severl swim breaks. It was a great trip. Trip Length: 24 miles.

August 1: Edisto Beach- Back of island and then up Mud Creek for dolphin watching. Mid 90's and hot. We saw lots of dolphin. A great short rip. Trip length: 2 hours and 2.5 miles.

August 2: Remley's Point through Charleston Harbor. Upper 80's and breezy and choppy. Great views of Cooper River Bridge. Trip length: 6.2 miles.

August 6: Folly Beach and Apron Island. Lower 90's and hot and sunny, with a nice breeze. We swam at Apron Island. Saw dolphin slapping thier tails. Trip length: 6.5 miles.

August 7: Willtown Bluff up the creeks, through the ricefields, and then up Penny creek. Lower 90's, but low humidity and a gentle breeze. We never broke a sweat! A local told us he would chain saw the tree that had recently fallen across Penny Creek. Trip length: 6.4 miles.

August 9: ACE Basin: Dawhoo River to Willtown Bluff: Lower 90's. We saw lots of gators but went swimming anyway. A gentle breeze kept things nice. Trip length: 9 miles.

August 15: Ashepoo River: Bennetts Point Landing to Otter Island via Fish Creek and back. Low 90's and sunny. Hit a storm on the way back. trip length: 18.7 miles

August 18: Down Penny Creek, through the ricefields, and then on to Willtown Bluff. Lower 90's, but low humidity and a gentle breeze. Took a family and an 81 year old grandfather! Saw more gators than boats. Trip length: 6.6 miles.

August 19: Down Penny Creek, through the ricefields, and then on to Willtown Bluff. Lower 90's, we added an extra loop looking for gators. We only saw 1, but we did not see any other boats. trip length: 7.9 miless

August 22: Willtown Bluff up the creeks, through the ricefields, and then up Penny creek. Lower 90's, but low humidity and a gentle breeze. trip length: 6.4 miles.

August 26: Folly Beach and Apron Island. Upper 80's and overcast. We saw oysters spitting. Trip length: 6.5 miles.

August 29: Down Penny Creek, through the ricefields, and then on to Willtown Bluff. Mid 80's and sunny. If we had been 5 minutes later, we would have run out of water in the rice field canals. Nice swim break at Willtown Bluff sandbar. Trip length:6.5 miles.

30 August: Folly Beach and Apron Island. Mid 80's and sunny. We saw lots of dolphin feeding. trip length: 6.5 miles.

Sep 2: Folly Beach-Apron Island loop trip. Overcast, upper 70's, and breezy. trip length: 6.5 miles.

Sep 6: Down Penny Creek, through the ricefields, and then on to Willtown Bluff. Mid 80's and lots of sun. Added an extra loop. Trip length: 7.5 miles.

Sep 6: Rantowles Creek, Bulow Landing to Limehouse Bridge. Mid 80's and sunny. Trip length: 6.1 miles.

Sep 16: Folly Beach and Apron Island. Mid 80's and sunny. Trip length: 6.5 miles.

Sep 27: Isle of Palms, Breach Inlet to Gray Bay, then Morgan Creek, out to Dewees Inlet and back to Breach Inlet. Overcast and upper 70's. Trip length: 13.8 miles.

Oct 2: Down Penny Creek, through the ricefields, and then on to Willtown Bluff. Mid 80's. Demonstrated various kayaks. Trip length: 7.5 miles.

Oct 2: Rantowles Creek, Bulow Landing loop trip. Mid 80's. Trip length: 4 miles.

Oct 7: Botnay Bay, Ocella Creek down to Edisto River and back through creeks. Lower 70's, overcast, and windy. Trip length:9.5 miles.

Oct 10: ACE Basin: Dawhoo River to Willtown Bluff: Lower 90's. Mid 70's and sunny. Trip length: 9 miles.

Oct 31: ACE Basin, Price Bridge Landing loop trip, Horseshoe Creek Ricefields and then up to HWY 64. Mid 80's and sunny. Leaves were falling in the forest as thouhg ithey were a hard rain. Trip length 11.1 miles.

Nov 9: Willtown Bluff through the ricefields loop trip. Overcast and mid 70's. Trip length: 7 miles.

Nov 15: Horseshoe Creek and ricefied canal loop trip. Upper 70's and sunny. A great trip. Trip length 6 miles.

January 13: Edisto River: Good Hope Landing to Sullivans Ferry Landing. Upper 50's and very overcast. Trip Length: 6 Miles.

April 18,19 &20: East Coast Kayak Festival

April 25: Edisto River from Givhans Ferry State Park to entrance to 4 Hole Swamp. Upper 70's. Trip length: 5 miles.

April 26: Edisto River: Givhans Ferry State Park to Good Hope Landing. Lower 80's. Trip length: 7 miles.

April 26: Edisto River: Givhans Ferry State Park up river beyond 4 Hole Swamp. Mid 70's and rain. Trip length: 8 miles.

April 27:Edisto River: Marsoldfield Landing,1.5 miles into 4 Hole Swamp, and on to Givhans Ferry State Park. Mid 70's. Trip length: 10 miles.

May 4: Black Mingo Creek to Black River. Lower 80's and sunny.Trip length: 10.4 miles

May 17: Ashepoo and Edisto Rivers: Bennetts Point to Otter Island and back. Mid 80's and perfect weather. Trip length18.7 miles.

May 18: Combahee River: Sugar Hill Landing onto the Combahee River for a short distance and back. Lower 80's and perfect weather. Trip length: 4 miles.

May 24: Wando River: Paradsie Island to Remleys Point. Lower 80's ands then a front moved in and it ended up in mid 70's, windy and overcast. Trip length: 16 miles.

May 26: Awendaw Creek to Steed Creek bridge loop trip. Mid 80's and georgous. It is tough getting out at Steed Creek Bridge. Trip length: 9.4 miles.

May 31: Sparkleberry Swamp on Lake Marion. Lower 90's. The swamp was spectacular. Trip length: 7.6 miles.

June 1: ACE Basin, Horseshoe Creek to Ashepoo River loop trip. Lower 90's and sunny. Trip length: 4.8 miles.

June 8: Black River: Mid 90's and very hot. Even the water was hot. Trip length: 9.8 miles.

June 10: ACE Basin: Loop trip from Prices Bridge Landing on Horseshoe Creek to the Ashepoo and up the Ashepoo to HWY 303. Mid 90's and sunny. Trip length: 18.3 miles.

June 19: ACE Basin: Circumnavigation of Hutchinson Island from Bennetts Point and then up Musselboro Creek. Circumnavigation was 13.3 miles and then we paddled up the creek a few miles. Sunny and upper 80's; brewing afternoon thunderstorms had us cut short the trip up the creek. Total trip length: 17 miles.

June 22: ACE Basin, Edisto River, circumnavigation of Jehossee Island from Dawho Landing, extending the trip by going on up to Willtown Bluff before completing the circumnavigation. Sunny and in the lower 90's. We had a stiff sea breeze after 1 PM. Trip length: 22 miles.

June 29: Circumnavigation of James Island, from Wappoo Cut Landing, through Charleston Harbour, around Fort Sumter, behind Morris Island, down Lighthouse Creek, behind Folly Island, up the Stono River, through Elliotts Cut, and back to Wappoo Cut Landing: 35 miles. Upper 80's and breezy. We pulled ashore while a line of violnet thunderstorms passed.

July 7: Combahhee River, from Fields Point Landing, upstream with the tide and back. Sunny and lower 90's. Dolphins came by as we were swimming. tip length: 16 miles.

July 12: Edisto River: Good Hope Landing to Sullivans Ferry Landing. Sunny and in the upper 80's. Trip length: 6 miles.

July 19: Edisto River: Good Hope Landing to Sullivans Ferry Landing. A tropical storm threatened teh coast, so we moved inland. The sun came out for the end of the trip. Trip length: 6 miles.

July 20: Edisto River: Good Hope Landing to Sullivans Ferry Landing. Sunny and in the mid 90's. Trip length: 6 miles.

July 26: Lake Moultrie locks trip. Overcast and in the mid 80's. The sun came out and heated things up as we finished in Wadboo Creek. Trip length: 12 miles.

July 27: Charleston Harbor--6 bridge challenge. Paddled under Wappoo Cut bridge, James Island connector to West Ashley, James Island connector to downtown, incoming and outgoing HWY 17 bridges downtown, and the Cooper River bridge. Overcast, breezey,and choppy on the Cooper River. Upper 80's. It took 3 1/4 hours- a new record for me. Trip length: 12 miles.

Augsut 9: Edisto River- Westbank Landing to Willtown sandbar and back. Hot and sunny. We paddled on the back creeks, viewed many gators, and then swam on a sandbar in the river. Trip Length: 13.6 miles.

August 10: Ashepoo River, Prices Bride Landing on Horseshoe Creek to sandbar on the Ashepoo and back. It was low tide at the sandbar at 1PM and it was packed with boaters. Mid 90's and sunny. Trip Length: 11.1 miles.

August 17: Edisto River, Willtown Bluff, up parallel creeks, and into ricefields to high ground and back. Rice field canal was amazing. Upper 80's, very humid, and overcast. Trip length: 7.8 miles.

August 23: Edisto River, from Willtown Bluff, up parallel creeks, through rice field canals, to West Bank Landing. and then back to Willtown Bluff. Upper 80's and rainy--remnants of a hurricane passed through. Trip Length: 13.6 miles.

August 31: Edisto River, from Willtown Bluff, up parallel creeks, through rice field canals, and to high ground across from PennyCreek, and return. Lower 90's and sunny.Trip Length: 9.2 miles.les.

.September 7: Beaufort, Port Royal Landing to Brickyard Landing on Lady Island. Lower 90's, no breeze, the water was like glass for the entire trip.Trip Length: 11.2 miles.

September 21: ACE Basin and Ashepoo River from Price Bridge Landing on Horseshoe Creek, to Ashepoo and then to a sandbar on the Ashepoo River and back. Due to the equinox, the tide was very high and the sandbar remianed 2 feet underwater. Overcast and cool--no one felt like swimming. Trip Length: 13.2 miles.

October 5: Echaw Creek to Santee River. Sunny and lower 80's. We went swimming in the Santee River. Trip length: 5 miles.

October 16: Ashepoo River, Horseshoe Creek to Ashepoo River adn up to HWY 303 and back. Sunny and mid 80's. Trip Length: 18 miles.

October 19: Cooper River, Hendricks park under I-526 and up river. Upper 40's and very windy. We had planned to go up Goose Creek but the Cooper was too rough and we had to get too close to a temporarily restricted area. Trip Length: 3 miles.

November 9: Edisto River: Good Hope Landing to Long Creek Landing. Sunny and mid 60's. Trip Length: 6 miles.

November 28: Edisto River: Penny Creek, through rice field canals to Willtown Bluff. It started sunny and mid 60's and ended windy, overcast, and mid 50's. Trip Length: 6.4 miles.

December 24: Edisto River: Penny Creek, through rice field canals to Willtown Bluff. Sunny and lower 60's. Trip Length: 6.4 miles.

December 26: Edisto River: Penny Creek, through rice field canals to Willtown Bluff. Overcast and hazy, mid 70's. Trip Length: 6.4 miles.

January 14: Ashepoo levee Throw In, through Fee Farm creek, and down Ashepoo River to the saltwater dividing line. Mid 70's and overcast. Trip length: 16 miles.

April 29: Awendaw Creek from Forest Service Landing to Steed Creek Rd and back. Lower 80's and sunny. Trip length 9.5 miles.

May 5: Awendaw Creek from Forest Service Landing to Buck Hall and back. Upper 70's and overcast. Trip length: 7.6 miles.

May 12: Prices Bridge Landing on Horseshoe Creek to Ashepoo River and then up to HWY 303 and back. Lower 80's and sunny. Trip length: 18 miles.

May 13: Garris Landing to Bull island through the creeks and back. Upper 70's and overcast. Trip length: 8.6 miles.

May 19: Awendaw Creek from Forest Service Landing to Steed Creek Rd and back for US Forest Service. Upper 70's and sunny. Trip length: 9.5 miles.

May 26: Black River from Ervin Landing to Pump House Landing with LowCountry Paddlers. Lowers 80's and sunny. Trip length: 10 miles.

May 28: Edisto River from Willtown Bluff to Penny Creek. Lower 80's and cloudy. Trip length: 7 miles

June 6: Awendaw Creek twilight paddle from Forest Service Landing to Buck Hall and back. Upper 80's and clear. Trip length: 7.2 miles.

June 16: Circumnavigate Jehossee Island via Dawho and Edisto Rivers. Lower 90's and clear. Trip length: 16.5 miles.

June23 : LowCountry paddler club trip on Lake Marion. Lower 90's and sunny. trip length: 3 miles.

June 30: Ashepoo River-circumnavigating Hutchinson Island. Lower 90's and sunny. Trip length: 13.5 miles.

July 1: Willtown Bluff and Rice fields across the river. Lower 90's and overcast. trip length 6.7 miles.

July 4: Horseshoe Creek to sandbar on Ashepoo River. Upper 80's and sunny. The sandbar was 18 inches underwater. trip length: 11.3 miles.

July 7: Santee River, McConnel Landing, down Chicken Creek, and back up the Santee River. Lower 90's and sunny. trip length: 15.5 miles.

July 21: Horseshoe Creek to sandbar on Ashepoo River and back. Mid 80's and sunny. The sandbar was underwater 3 inches. Paddled down two totally different rice field canals. trip length: 12.3 miles.

July 22: Toogoodoo Creek to HWY 174 bridge and back. Mid 80's and sunny. trip length 10.3 miles.

July 28: Combahee River from yemassee to Sugar Hill landing. Upper 80's and overcast--but no rain. trip length: 10 miles.

July 29: Bonneau Beach to Gourdine Landing (near Russelville) and back. Upper 80's and overcast--no rain. Paddled open water to Gourdine Landing and then back via back channels and canals. trip length: 15 miles.

August 5: Folly Beach Landing to Morris Island and back. Lower 90's, sunny, and very hot. trip length: 10 miles

August 12: Combahee River from HWY 17 Bridge to Sugar Hill Landing and back. Lower 90's and sunny. Great swimming in black water. trip length: 17 miles.

August 18: Edisto River from Good Hope Landing to Sullivans Ferry Landing. Mid 90's and sunny. trip length: 6 miles.

August 19: Lake Moultrie trip to Duck Pond. Lower 90's and hot. The water level was low. It was almsot too shallow to paddle into Duck Pond. trip length: 6 miles

August 25: Folly Beach Landing to Apron Island and back. Lower 90's and very himid. Great swimming at Apron Island. trip length:7 miles

September 2: County Farm Landing (Leeds Ave) to Middleton Place and back. Rain threatened, but we only had some drizzle. Upper 80's and very cloudy. It is 10.1 miles to Middleton. trip length: 20.2 miles.

September 15: Training: Open Water Rescue

September 22: Wappoo Cut to Morris Island, Cummings Point and back. Lower 80's and sunny. trip length: 13.6 miles

October 6: Training: Trip Leader Training

November 4: Hendricks Landing under I-526 down river past navy base and back. Lower 60's and windy. trip length: 11 miles

November 17: Firehouse Landing , through Eliotts Cut, through Pennys Creek, and back. Started in upper 30's and warmed up to lower 60's. trip length: 11 miles.

December 1: Parade of Boats- Remley's Point on Cooper River to Coast guard Station on Ashley River and back. Upper 50's and a nice evening paddle. trip length: 14 miles.

December 8: Price Bridge landing on Horseshoe Creek, upstream, under HWY 64 to a footbridge. Upper 70's and sunny. trip length: 5.7 miles.

December 22: Folly Beach Landing to Apron Island and back. Mid 50's and a strong breeze. trip length: 7 miles.

December 24: Limehouse bridge to Bulow landing and back. Started in lower 40's and ended in mid 50's. trip length: 8.6 miles.
